Mary Etta Decorating Christmas Tree in Parlor Room, 1957 “Christmas was a special time but the gift giving was somewhat modest. Daddy would go up on the bluff behind our house and cut a cedar tree (untilMother decided to buy a silver aluminum one)> We put it in the front fall and mother, Jimmy and I decorated it. My brother and I had our ‘Wish List"'–some of the things we received and others we didn’t. Christmas Eve was a special time because Uncle Weit and Aunt Luella sent their butler, Penny, down to our house with our gifts. Of course, we had to wait until Christmas morning to open them, but there was a lot of shaking going on. Christmas dinner was wonderful.
